In 1995 it was just a dream, but in its 11th season, Gateway International Raceway is one of America’s premier motorsport tracks. It all started with a 1/8 mile drag strip in 1967 and grew to a 1/4 mile track in 1971 and the raceway embarked on a series of renovations and reorganizations that brought it to where it is today. The new Gateway Raceway opened with the Motorola 300 to a packed house.
Today the Raceway offers a wide range of racing events for every fan. Events include; NASCAR Busch, Craftsman Trucks, ARCA, IRL, Champ Cars, NHRA, Street Cars, Motorcycle Road Racing, SCCA Road Racing, Jr. Dragsters and more. Various car shows, clubs and special events are held here throughout the year. Tickets start at $10.00 for a single adult race pass and oval season tickets start at $125.00 for an adult.
NASCAR isn’t the only race at the raceway. The Gateway is also home to a 1/8 mile Drag Strip which hosts the SX Performance Street Car Shootout, Quick Street Bike, MCRA Motorcycle Road Racing, Bracket Racing and a variety of special events throughout the year. NHRA events include Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. RV parking is available, with infield parking rented at $700.00 per season and includes 4 Oval Season Race Passes. General mobile home parking spaces are available on the southern property subject to availability. Another option is the nearby full-service Casino Queen RV Park.
Those with a passion for cars will enjoy the St. Louis Car Museum. Cars have been hand selected and the impressive inventory is not only on display but also available for sale. Cars on display include a 1969 Chevelle SS, a 1923 Cadillac Touring Phaeton, a vintage Harley Davidson and a 1997 American General Hummer.
The St. Louis Karting Association has a long history of providing safe fun since the 1960’s. The new state-of-the-art facility was completed in June 2002 and today Widman County Park is one of the premier go-kart tracks in the country. The track is a 0.55 mile sprint track with 9 turns, hairpins, Banked Monza and an 800 foot straight. It can be configured into multiple lanes to meet different needs.
